More About This Local Church of the Nazarene

Our Vision

Enable and Empower to Engage!

Our Values

Prayer-We believe that the foundation to effective living is prayer.  Prayer is our highest priority, and we attempt to both practice and teach prayer as the unifying theme of all ministry.

Acceptance and Support-If there’s one place on earth where you can go and be loved and accepted – it is to be the church.  We are not here to judge others, but to “consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24)

Sharing Christ - Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:18-20)  All people matter to God and opportunities will be given to encourage sharing Christ with a lost and dying world!

Discipling Believers –Anything less than total devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ robs people of the blessings God has for them and makes them more vulnerable to the tragedies of life.  Classes, mentoring and Bible Studies are offered as a means of discipling.

Equipping - The purpose of church leadership is to help people to succeed at whatever ministry God is leading them in.  Equipping takes place one-on-one and during the Sunday evening service.

Who We Are

We are part of a denomination known as the Church of the Nazarene, which started in the early 1900’s to emphasize two important truths:

1.      God’s power to allow us to live a holy life

2.      God’s concern for hurting people.

Directly in the mainstream of historical Christianity, the Church of the Nazarene has its roots in England’s Evangelical revival of the 1700’s.  When England was headed toward social collapse, God raised up John Wesley to lead a revival that literally changed the direction of history.  Our roots flow from that revival and Wesley’s ministry.  Today, Nazarenes include 1.5 million people in over 10,000 churches.  With over 600 missionaries, we have the largest missionary force in the world for our size denomination.

We believe in higher education and sponsor 10 liberal arts colleges, 3 seminaries, 41 Bible colleges and 569 special schools worldwide.  Over 900,000 books and 70 million copies of magazines are published annually by Nazarene Publishing House, making it the fifth largest denominational publisher in the world.

You will find Nazarenes to be warm-hearted Christians who are genuinely concerned about one another, and eager to live the victorious life of holiness that Christ provides.  We are earnestly committed to sharing the good news about Jesus everywhere with everyone!

Statement of Belief

1.      We believe in one God, Almighty, the Creator of everything, who is Father, Son and Spirit.

(Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

2.  We believe in Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man at the same time, who became like us to bring us salvation.

(Matthew 1:20-25, 16:15-16; John 1:1-18)

3.      We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is active in the world, bringing us to salvation.

(John 14:15-18, 15:7-15; Romans 8:1-17)

4.      We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, giving us all we need to know about how to be saved.

(2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

5.      We believe we are all sinners by nature and act and need God’s forgiveness and cleansing.

(Genesis 3; Romans 3:23, 5:12-14, 6:15-23)

6.      We believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross and that, by trusting in His death and resurrection, we can be restored to a right relationship with God.

(Isaiah 53:5-6; John 3:14-17)

7.      We believe God enables us to turn to Him from sin, but that He does not force us to do so.

(Genesis 2:16-17; John 1:12; Galatians 6:7-8)

8.      We believe that each person must repent, turn away from sin and trust Christ to be saved.

(Isaiah 55:6-7; Acts 17:30-31)

9.      We believe that when we turn from sin and trust in Christ the record of sins is erased, we are born again, and become a part of the family of God.

(Acts 13:39; Titus 3:4-7; Galatians 4:4-7)

10.  We believe that after being born again, we need the fullness of God’s Holy Spirit in our hearts.  When we make a complete commitment to Him, He cleanses our spirit, fills us with His perfect love, and gives us the power to live victoriously.

(Matthew 3:11, 22:37-40; 1 John 4:17-18)

11.  We believe that the Church is the active Body of Christ in the world today.  It is called together by the Holy Spirit, through the word, for the purpose of fulfilling God’s plan for the world until Jesus returns.

(1 Corinthians 12:12-31; Ephesians 5:25-27)

12.  We believe in baptism and encourage people to be baptized as Christians.

(Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 2:37-41)

13.  We believe in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion.

(Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32)

14.  We believe God can and does heal.  We pray for miraculous healing, yet also believe God heals through medical science.

(2 Corinthians 12:7-10; James 5:13-16)

15.  We believe that Jesus will return, that the righteous will triumph and evil will be forever defeated.

(John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

16.  We believe that everyone will face the final judgment of God with its rewards and punishments.

(Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:11-15)
